For as long as I’ve been shooting weddings one would think I would be the most knowledgable person on the subject of all things traditional. However, (as I have learned over the years) wedding traditions vary from state to state, city to city, and even family to family. The beauty of being a destination wedding photographer on St. Croix is I have had the opportunity to receive a diverse education in a wide array of traditions. One tradition I have come to enjoy is the “First Look”. This is where the Bride and Groom meet privately prior to the ceremony to spend a few precious moments together. Having done a first look at my own wedding I can say it does alleviate some of the jitters. Plus it’s exciting to be the first to see each other all “dolled up” before anyone else does. My husband and I took the opportunity to complete our Bride and Groom photos during our First Look. When Jenny and Nate decided to do a First Look I was so excited. When Nate arrived to meet Jenny I was taken back to a scene from Romeo and Juliet. Jenny revealed herself to Nate from a terrace style landing by their suite in the beautiful Doubloons at the Buccaneer Hotel. What a site! My favorite thing about photographing First Looks is the expression on the groom’s face when he sees his lady for the first time. Moments like these are priceless.
