Sue and Val

Do you ever feel like it would be better to just runaway with your love to a Caribbean island and elope? My husband always jokes that he wishes he had made arrangements to fly our families down for a surprise elope wedding after proposing to me while on vacation in St. Lucia. Elopes are some of my favorite types of weddings to shoot. They hold a special place in my heart because elopes are how I got my start. My business has grown significantly over the last 10 years and along with the larger weddings I book annually, I still leave room for elopes. I feel they keep me fresh.  The intimacy  and simplicity of an elope wedding serves as a reminder of what it means to come together and express the depth of love and commitment through marriage. I feel honored to be a part of that, to witness that.  I often wonder why some couples choose to elope. Some reasons are obvious such as, they cost less, there is less fuss involved, and they can be planned pretty quickly. Yet, I’d like to think it’s more than this. I never ask as I feel to elope is a personal decision. Equally, I enjoy the mystery of it all. I find it keeps me present. Nothing else exists at that moment besides this couple, a secluded beach, their vows, myself, and my camera.
