I first met Gabe and Samantha more than five years ago, when my husband and I were living on St. John. I was standing in line at the grocery store and Gabe was in line in front of me. We struck up a conversation and he soon learned that I was a Virgin Island’s resident as well as a freelance photographer. I learned that he and his family were on vacation and they really wanted to get family portraits done while they were on island. We exchanged information and soon set a date. I was delighted to meet Gabe’s wife Samantha and their (then one year old) son, Simian. The shoot went well and everyone had a great time.
Fast forward 4 years, I was so honored to get a call back to shoot Gabe and Samantha’s family photos once again on St. John. Believe it or not repeat destination clients are a rare and wonderful treat. So much had changed in all of our lives. It was great to catch up and see how their beautiful family had grown and evolved. One of the wonderful things I now know as a mother are the great friendships that can be cultivated through your children’s friends. These relationships can feel like family. Children have an uncanny ability to bring people together. Simian and his best friend, Justin have been best buds since pre-school and through their friendship all the parents have become best friends as well. So much so that, hey take their family vacations together every year.
This time St. John was on the list and I not only had the opportunity to photograph the progression of Gabe and Samantha’s family, but I was able to meet James and Jason’s family as well. What fun!
